Thefts in our Neighborhood

From Neighborhood Watch:

4/30/02 AM

On Monday night (4/29), or very early Tuesday morning several homes in WOL fell victim to a young man who was breaking into cars and stealing property. Only four cases have been reported at this point, two being my neighbor and myself. In our cases, our cars were left unlocked and there was no damage. We usually lock our cars every night, but there was an exception last night on one of our cars.

The young man who did all this was caught by the Sheriff's Dept. very early this morning at his grandmother's home. I am still trying to find out where this teenager's grandmother's house is. Most of the property was recovered and much of the rest of it that the Deputy could not identify as stolen is being recovered tonight. In fact, I described several pieces of my personal property and he said he saw all of it. He is in route to the grandmother's home to pick-up more of the property and to return mine to me tonight. Now I call that service!

The deputy says that they did not even realize the extent of this young man's crime spree until late today. Now they are still getting reports of theft activity in this area that is probably related.

We did not even realize that we were victims to this crime until late this morning. Please talk with your neighbors and tell everybody to check their property and make sure nothing is missing. It's not too late to file a report and recover some of your stolen property.

Also, if you find anything that was left behind please contact your street's block captain, Nathan Gaskill, or myself and report the lost property to us so we can get it back to its proper owner who was a victim of this crime. This teenage boy stole a lot of stuff and then left it behind at other scenes. He even tossed some of it in front yards and bushes.

I will have this Sheriff's Deputy's name late tonight so anybody who needs to contact him can do so.

Deputy Allred is the one handling this case. He returned the most important items to me tonight, but did not have my black CD case, just in case somebody finds it. He did have another large CD case that he thought was mine. He said this teenage boy was stealing property and then leaving it behind.

He says they actually ran across all this stolen property because of another charge related to some theft at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church over the weekend. He also says that this young man was associating with some other boys from WOL, but he did not indicate if they were involved in this activity.

Yes, my intent was to make other neighbor aware that property is missing and if found can be reported to us. I also felt that some people may have been victims and did not realize it yet. We only realized it after our neighbor showed me his police report than we realized we were missing some property from our truck.

It was learned that the boy lives in a neighborhood near the airport. Some Golf Clubs were also reported missing from a few weeks ago. Stewart Angst has volunteered as the focal point for recovery of the items and information about the thefts.  Pete
