The pool area was vandalized 03-30-09

    07-20-08:

Bicycle stolen today - then recovered thanks to observant neighbors!

About 4pm a blue and silver “Mongoose” bike was stolen from a driveway on Oak Acres.
The bike owner was helping bring in groceries for a neighbor, they came out and it was gone.

The thief is believed to be a blond haired male in high school who lives here or in Oak Cliff.
A police report is being filed. Please contact (832) 912-8474 if you see it anywhere. Thanks!

    06-27-08:

We’re holding another movie night at the park on Saturday! We’ll start the movie “Cars” as soon as it’s dark enough, probably close to 8:30pm. We’ve got lemonade to mix up, freezer pops and popcorn. You’re welcome to grab a chair or floor pad for yourself and the kids and come join the fun!

    Shannon Tevlin

PS. If someone has a microwave oven they could loan for the evening, please let me know. The popcorn would be hotter that way. Thanks!

    05-16-08 Notice:

Waste Management has made a change to their trash collection fee amount.

Instead of WOL spending the money to mail this out to everyone in the Association, please see this PDF file.

Not sure if everyone saw the signs around.  A new neighbor has lost their doggie.

If you’ve seen it, anytime lately, please call 832-620-3707. Thanks!

There's a new Affordable Housing Apartments proposal, but it's not too near WOL. We received a copy of this proposal because WOL registered with Harris county as an organization during our effort to repel Pinnacle Apts. Read the Document

On Tuesday, August `st from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. join the thousands of citizens in Houston Harris County and the nation for this annual event. You can make a difference! Get out and meet your neighbors, bring a smile! Together, as neighbors, we can stamp out crime. We have the power to keep our neighborhoods safe. Remember to turn on your front porch lights and lock your doors nightly.

National Night Out is designed to:

    • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.
    • Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs.
    • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community relations.
    • Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Along with traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils, cities, towns and neighborhoods celebrate NNO with a variety of events and activities such as; block parties, cookouts, visits from local police, parades, flashlight walks, contests and youth programs.

This years Flashlight Parade through the neighborhood will be held Tuesday, August 1st at 7:00 p.m. starting at the park.  See Parade Pictures!

12/5/05  - A neighbor has reported that his two chow puppies have escaped. One is golden and one is black.
If you know of their whereabouts, please call 281-807-0077.

6/30/05 - Fireworks ban is being enforced (with hefty fines) in certain areas near our neighborhood

3/25/05 - The pool renovation is in progress! See images

3/11/05 - Fritz Lang has been appointed onto the WOL Board, replacing Tony Reyes.

1/22/05 - Hello Neighbors,  Quick action by neighbors led to the apprehension of at least one individual using drugs at our park this morning! Apparently more than one neighbor recognized and reported the problem. The Sheriff came and took them away.
I, for one, appreciate the quick action of those involved and their willingness to do more than ignore the problem!
    Thank You!

For emphasis, repeating what I said on Jan. 3rd:

It’s really up to us to keep an eye out for each other and make note of important details that may help the Police catch and properly prosecute these individuals. When we unite and strengthen our resolve to strongly address these occurrences, and the word gets out that we are aware and will fight the undesirable elements that unfortunately are sometimes amongst us, these crooks and deadbeats will seek easier targets elsewhere. Another benefit of reporting is if occurrences are reported more often, the police will patrol more often!

Without a community newsletter, information like this doesn’t get out to everyone. The number of subscribers to this email list has been hovering around 75 for quite a while. While I think its great this many are signed up, I’d like to see information to be reaching more of the ~330 residents. Please take a moment in the next few weeks to let a neighbor know about the list and invite them to go to the website and sign up!

Only two people have signed up since then. Let’s get the word out about this great communication resource!

12/19/04 - What a great time when Santa came to WOL!  I would like to express appreciation from all of White Oak Landing to Cynthia and Maria Garza and their elves for all their efforts to make “Santa in the Park” such a great success.

Santa arrived at the park today at 2:00PM and brought lots of gifts and treats for everyone. We had a great turnout as many neighbors came to enjoy the festivities. There were plenty of cookies, hot cocoa and coffee. The kids had fun playing musical chairs and bouncing in the Monster Truck and Castle moonwalks. Everyone received a Polaroid picture of their visit with Santa Claus.

Keep in mind that we will have another holiday celebration, an Easter Egg Hunt in March.

    Merry Christmas!

10/28/04 - There's a great event coming soon! Cy Falls Athletic Booster Club BBQ Cook Off

10/27/04 - The Annual White Oak Landing Homeowners Association Meeting was held Tuesday October 26, 2004. We barely achieved a quorum! Announcements were made about Crime Watch and Joining the Email list. The budget was presented and discussed. Some door prizes were distributed. Regarding the expiring Board positions, Nathan Gaskill couldn't attend but Kim Tevlin read a note from him about his appreciation at being a Board member and wanting to continue serving on the Board. Janet Angst spoke and noted her desire to also remain on the Board.
Mrs. Cori Nederpelt spoke and told a bit about herself and her family, her background and what she felt qualified her to serve her neighbors as a Board member. The election was held and Cori and Nathan were elected for three year terms.

9/27/04 - A child in our neighborhood needs our assistance and prayers.  Desting Davis, born, Oct. 16, 2001 (2 yrs. old) has cancer in both lungs and she also had a tumor removed which was the size of a grapefruit. There is also spot in other places as well but what she has is called a yolk sack tumor. The cancer is traveling through her blood and grabs hold of whatever cell it can and forms there. She has to take 4 months of treatments and has to take shots every day to keep her white blood count up. The family has had a very hard time with accepting the news. Her mother is 19 yrs. old and has not been able to return to work due to Desting's condition. She has to go to the doctor twice a week to get her blood count checked. If you would like to be of financial blessing to this family we would really appreciate it. If not please pray for this family. God bless you.  10734 Perigrine Dr. Houston, TX 77065 Hm.: (281) 517-0672

    9/21/04 - Hello,
Mark your calendars as the Annual White Oak Landing Homeowners Association Meeting will be Tuesday October 26, 2004. The meeting will be held at Millsap Elementary and begin at 7:00PM. We will again have those wonderful door prizes! All residents will receive a mail notice of the meeting in the next couple of weeks.

We also have 2 Board Member positions up for re-election. Anyone interested in running for one of these positions can contact me or AMI to get more information. It’s a great way to get involved in your community and make a difference.

We have scheduled the Fall WOL Garage Sale to be held on October 15th and 16th. We will be advertising in the Chronicle and will put the two large signs at the entry to help generate activity.

Please note a change in our management company’s representatives. Ron Lake is no longer with Association Management. Our new representatives are Wendi Owens and Ayesha Khan. They both have been doing an outstanding job and I have really enjoyed working with them. They can be reached at 713-932-1122

    Thank you!

8/21/04 - Black dog with purple collar but no tag found, Call 713-594-5966 to get it back.

7/28/04 - Mike Dyer can no longer publish our community newsletter. Please keep checking here or sign up for the email list for the latest WOL and area news.

7/14/04 - Plan on coming out and meet your neighbors at the Annual National Night Out! - This year's event will be special because we're getting a horse drawn carriage to add to the fun!! Come one - Come all! Print out a flyer

6/10/04 - Someone destroyed the soda machine again. This will be the second time it has been vandalized. I contacted Coca Cola and they will be out in the next day or two to replace it. I don’t know when it happened. They had to have taken a crow bar to try to pry it open and it looked like it could have a couple of bullet holes in it. We'll probably need to relocate it into the pool area.

We really need to keep an eye on the park and pavilion area and if you see anyone hanging out in the park or parking area after dusk you need to call the Sheriff @ 713-221-6000 police and request to have them removed. If you want "somebody else" to call the police, call Nathan @ 281-897-0577 or Kim @ 281-955-7345. Thanks for helping keep WOL safe!

Everything you want to know about the MULTIFAMILY DEVELOPMENT - It was APPROVED!! It's now under construction and should be completed August 2005.

3/13/04 - Our Newsletter is being published again! Many thanks to Mike Dyer for his efforts! To advertise see the contact info within it. Click Newsletter on left.

3/12/04 - An accident occurred recently at the front of the neighborhood. For safety's sake, please recognize that it's illegal to turn left onto White Oak Landing Blvd., a one-way divided highway, when exiting the new strip center. Also, encourage everyone you know who is coming from the north and wanting to enter the strip center to make a legal U-Turn at the green left arrow period of the stop light and not at the end of the median (by the marquee). This makes more sense because it's wider (there are three lanes in which to make the turn) and you are protected from oncoming traffic by the light.

3/8/04 - Remember the public meeting Wednesday night 3/10 regarding the PROPOSED MULTIFAMILY DEVELOPMENT; Try to ATTEND!! Summary of the meeting here

3/5/04 - Greater Houston Pool Management is now hiring lifeguards for the White Oak Landing Pool and for pools in the surrounding area.  If you are interested in becoming a certified lifeguard, please visit our website at www.greaterhoustonpool.com or contact our office at 713-771-POOL (7665) x12.

2/4/03 - 4 Wheel covers found. If they're yours, call 281-894-9485 to retrieve them.

2/4/03 - Treadmill for sale, click Classifieds in the menu.

2/2/03 - Reconstruction of the street occurred today at Lynnville @ Peregrine. Remember the rushing water sound that could be heard when you went for a walk near this corner. Apparently there was a very large cavity under there that threatened to collapse under the weight of the concrete road. All fixed now thanks to the Precinct 3 street department!

1/25/04 - PROPOSED MULTIFAMILY DEVELOPMENT  There's a new sign on Huffmeister Rd. just south of the bayou indicating plans for development of a new apartments in association with the TDHCA.
This could negatively affect our home values! Tell your neighbors and those in nearby communities!

2/27/01 - Fred Zeller wrote: > What's with all the trash on white oak landing blvd on 2-27-01?
Pete Tevlin replies: Hello Fred, The trash cans were being hit by a late model dark colored GM truck that was squealing tires etc. around 2am Monday morning. The florescent lights on both sides of the entry sign were damaged that night also. The driver of a very similar truck was identified Saturday night by an aware neighbor busting the marquee light. A police report has been filed and a detective hasn't yet been assigned to the case. Keep your eyes open and call Nathan Gaskill @ 281-897-0577 and or Stewart Angst @ 281-955-1203 if you know of more incidents.  This weekend is "Clean-up White Oak Landing Weekend" so we can all get out and pick up things together. Thanks for the interest! There are some projects that you and any other interested neighbors can help out with. If interested, write back.  Click here to discuss the cleanup projects.   Pete
    5/27 - Vandalism
A bicycle was stolen from the pool area bike rack on Saturday 5/27. Luckily, it was recovered later in the bayou. This is a selfish, criminal act. There are consequences. Theft of any item valued at $50 or more is a Class 2 misdemeanor and, if caught, the perpetrator gets a free ride downtown, an arrest on their criminal record and may have to pay restitution to the victim. The statute of limitations for this crime is 2 years. If anyone saw the person stealing this bike, please call the police. Your testimony can help end crime in our neighborhood.
The soda machine in the pool area was vandalized twice last year and once again just recently. Each time, the "door" that is meant to keep the cool air in and keep arms out has been torn off and soda stolen. When sodas are stolen from the bottom of the stack, the next person who PAYS for a soda gets nothing. This is a selfish, criminal act. There are consequences.
Please keep an eye out for vandalism and report it immediately. This is the way to STOP IT.
5/23 - Solid white cat missing. If you find her call 281-890-6382.

5/12 - The Board wishes to thank Kathy Oestreich and Kim Tevlin for volunteering again to be Pool Liaisons! Kathy and Kim will again be our pool liaisons this year and will handle pool issues with the Board of Directors and The Lone Star representatives. Rather than approach the lifeguards, please forward all complaints and problems to one of these residents and they will be sure that the proper action is taken to correct the problem. The lifeguards are employees of Lone Star Pool Management Company. They have regulations and schedules by which they must abide and, if we don't know about problems, they cannot be addressed properly. Kathy and Kim We ask that you PLEASE take a moment to review the POOL RULES on our web site! Please help us make this and enjoyable swimming season for everyone by reporting any problems to these two residents. Have a safe and fun summer season!

This damages mail contained within the mailboxes and discolors the box.  Mailboxes are considered federal property, and federal law (Title 18, United States Code, Section 1705), makes it a crime to vandalize them (and to injure, deface or destroy any mail deposited in them). 12/11 - In a brazen and thoughtless act of selfishness, thieves stole the Disney theme Christmas decorations from Renee Smith's yard (10702 Pawley drive).  Neighbors heard noises at 2am Saturday morning looked out to see two white males, approximately 20 years of age getting into a dark extended cab pickup truck with dark tinted glass speeding away.  A police report # 9912110406 was filed.  Please call the police if you have any information about this crime or if you have also lost items.
